TORONTO — This is the UFC 231 live blog for Jimi Manuwa vs. Thiago Santos, a light heavyweight bout at Saturday’s UFC event at Scotiabank Arena.
Manuwa, who is coming off of back-to-back losses, faces Santos, who has won two straight including his debut at 205 pounds in September, on the main card.

Round 1: The third man in the cage is Todd Anderson. Opening flurry, Santos tags Manuwa a couple of times with hooks to the head and he’s wobbled. Desperation takedown by Manuwa and he gets it, but Santos scrambles and they’re back on their feet. Manuwa holding on as Santos throws in close, pinning Santos against the cage. He’s just holding onto a body lock, not throwing any strikes. Both men attempting knees and short punches. They separate for a second and Manuwa connects with a right hand. Back to the center of the cage now and it’s Santos who surprisingly tries a takedown. They’re cranking up the volume now, Manuwa blocks a spinning back elbow and Santos shoots in to get a takedown. Manuwa quickly back up and pressing Santos against the cage. Huge knee by Santos, Manuwa cracks him with a left hand, Santos responds with a counter-punch that cause Manuwa to pause. Huge shots already landed by both men. Santos pressuring Manuwa against the cage now. Spinning kick by Santos off of the beak narrowly misses. Manuwa with some punches and Santos backs up, only to fire back with a wild spinning roundhouse kick. Manuwa gets Santos down and he’s staying heavy on Santos’s back. Some ground-and-pound to close the round for Manuwa.

Round 2: Manuwa lands a couple of kicks to the body and Santos answers with a straight left down the pipe. Left hook and a knee to the body connects as Manuwa tries to push him against the cage. They start trading wildly and it’s Santos who lands the biggest punch, dropping Manuwa to his knees. This one is over!
