Paul Redmond vs. Charlie Leary slated for Bellator 217 in Dublin

Paul Redmond will make his return to the Bellator cage on Feb. 23 on the undercard of the recently announced Bellator 217 card in Dublin, Ireland when he takes on England’s Charlie Leary at 3 Arena.

Bellator confirmed the lightweight fight to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.

Redmond (14-7-0) recently had a three-fight win streak snapped by a knockout loss to Polish prospect Gracjan Szadzinski. In his last outing prior to that, he claimed a win in his Bellator debut against Sergio de Jesus Santos. The Team Ryano submission specialist holds wins over noted European fighters such as Lewis Long, Philip Mulpeter and former BAMMA champion Rob Sinclair.

In his last fight, Leary (15-9-1) claimed a second-round stoppage in his promotional debut against Tom Green when they clashed at Bellator 200 in London, England. A former FCC lightweight champion, Leary also holds a win over former BAMMA champion, Sinclair. Eleven of Leary’s 15 career wins come by way of stoppage.

Update: Bellator 217 was originally titled “Bellator 218”, but Bellator officials later informed MMA Fighting that the event would be titled “Bellator 217”, as the promotion’s Newcastle card on Feb. 9 will mark the official start of the European series, which will start a new numbering sequence.

James Gallagher is set to main event the Bellator 217 card. He joined the latest episode of Eurobash to talk about his first booking since his first professional loss to Ricky Bandejas. The interview begins at 51:50.
