Sodiq Yusuff came into his official UFC debut with a reputation for fast and accurate hands.
And he’ll leave Australia with that reputation intact.
The Contender Series grad picked apart Sydney’s Suman Mokhtarian on Saturday night at UFC Adelaide, needing just 2:14 to earn a TKO victory in their featherweight main-card bout.
“It might sound like a joke, but I’m black-splosive,” Yusuff said. “Pure Nigerian power.”
Yusuff immediately pushed forward and started landing crisp hands. He rocked Mokhtarian backwards with big rights to the jaw, and left him with no choice but to cover up against the fence. Yusuff landed body shot after body shot and was starting to break through with shots to the head when it was waved off.
Mokhtarian protested, but it was plain the stoppage was good.
After the fight, Yusuff dedicated his performance to his older brother, who recently passed away.
“My big brother just passed away one week ago,” Yusuff said. “I tried to keep it together, I shut it down. I lost one on the way, but I swear to you, I’m going to build this freaking house man, I’m going to build this house.”
The Maryland-based Yusuff improved to 8-1 with his third straight victory and fifth career finish. Mokhtarian dropped to 8-1.
