Two main card fighters struggled with the scale on Friday.
At the official weigh-ins for UFC Denver, which takes place Saturday at the Pepsi Center, women’s bantamweight Raquel Pennington came in heavy at 138 pounds, two pounds over the bantamweight limit. Strawweight Maycee Barber also had difficulties, weighing in at 116.5, half-a-pound over the divisional limit on her first attempt.
Both fighters waited until the last 15 minutes of the allotted weigh-in time to hit the scale and both required the hoop to cover up after stripping to shed the extra poundage. Neither was successful in making weight on their first try, but Barber was granted an extra hour to weigh-in and successfully made 116 pounds on attempt number two.
Pennington will forfeit 20 percent of her purse to opponent Germaine de Randamie and the bout will proceed as scheduled.
Earlier this week, Pennington spoke about a thyroid issue that complicated her weight cut.
