UFC 230 weigh-in results: Sijara Eubanks, Brian Kelleher miss weight

Sijara Eubanks’s past weight troubles reared their ugly head again on Friday.

The would-be women’s flyweight contender came in at 127.2 pounds for her fight with Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 230, which takes place Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. That put Eubanks 1.2 pounds over the flyweight limit (including the one-pound allowance).

Eubanks famously struggled to beat the scale for her UFC debut last December, when she was supposed to fight Nicco Montano for the right to become the promotion’s inaugural women’s champion at 125 pounds. The two earned their spot after battling their way through a 16-woman tournament on season 26 of The Ultimate Fighter.

in the end, weight-cut related health issues forced Eubanks to withdraw from that title opportunity (she was replaced by Modafferi, who then lost to Montano) and she later made her official debut in June, defeating Lauren Murphy by unanimous decision.

Friday’s miss is the latest bit of drama for the 33-year-old who at one point was reported to be fighting Valentina Shevchenko for the vacant title in the UFC 230 main event. When Shevchenko was instead moved back to a previously scheduled bout with Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231 — along with the championship shot — Eubanks raged at company officials.

Shortly after, Eubanks took to Twitter to seemingly address the miss:

Eubanks will be fined 20 percent of her purse and her bout with Modafferi is expected to go on as scheduled.

Bantamweight Brian Kelleher also came in heavy for his bantamweight bout with Montel Jackson at 137 pounds and he too will forfeit 20 percent of his purse.
