UFC Denver video: Devonte Smith makes debut with 46-second KO

Devonte Smith went from Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series to looking like a future contender at 155 pounds.

The 25-year-old lightweight made a successful debut on Saturday at UFC Denver, needing just 46 seconds to starch Octagon returnee Julian Erosa.

Erosa, an unorthodox striker, was clipped by a quick 1-2 combination from Smith, who immediately pounced with punches on the ground to pick up the first-round knockout. Smith’s record improved to 9-1 with the quick KO and all of his wins have come by way of finish.

This was Smith’s first official fight in the UFC after recording a first-round KO of Joseph Lowry in August to earn a Contender Series contract.

After the fight, Smith, a Cleveland resident who trains in Englewood, Colo., had a name in mind for his next opponent: UFC veteran Ross Pearson.
