Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully makes weight for UFC 229 fight vs. Conor McGregor

Khabib Nurmagomedov is on point for his first title defense.

The unbeaten UFC lightweight successfully made championship weight on Friday for his main event bout with Conor McGregor, which takes place at UFC 229 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Nurmagomedov’s official weight was 155 pounds, while McGregor later weighed in at 154.5 pounds to make the UFC 229 main event official.

Any cause for concern about Nurmagomedov having any problems with the scale were alleviated early when the fighter and his team showed up well before the scheduled weigh-in time of 12 p.m. ET. to make sure that the 30-year-old Russian was first to the scale. Nurmagomedov has had issues making weight in the past, missing once for a May 25, 2013 bout with Abel Trujillo, and memorably being forced to bow out of the main event UFC 209 on March 4, 2017.

At UFC 209, Nurmagomedov was set to face longtime rival Tony Ferguson for an interim lightweight title, but complications from Nurmagomedov’s weight cut led to him being taken to the hospital a day out from fight night and the bout was subsequently canceled.
