Video: Khabib Nurmagomedov taunts Conor McGregor during UFC 229 main event

Conor McGregor did a lot of talking in the lead-up to his UFC 229 duel with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

But it’s Nurmagomedov who had something to say on fight night.

On Thursday, a clip of Nurmagomedov adding insult to injury during last Saturday’s main event made the rounds on social media. The UFC lightweight champion can clearly be heard shouting at McGregor while raining down punches on his foe.

“Huh? We’re talking. Let’s talk now,” Nurmagomedov said in the second round.

McGregor can later be heard replying, “It’s only business, it’s just business.”

This isn’t the first time Nurmagomedov has taken the time to chat with an opponent while dominating them with his wrestling. He memorably told Michael Johnson that he should “give up” while working him over at UFC 205, before eventually making Johnson tap out to a kimura. It was also during that fight that he told UFC president Dana White that he was going to “smash [his] boy”, referring to McGregor.

“The Notorious” was his typical braggadocious self in hyping up his fight with Nurmagomedov, mocking both him and his manager Ali Abdelaziz at various points and saying that “there will never be peace” between him and Nurmagomedov.

And that is not even mentioning the hostilities in April that saw Nurmagomedov and his team confront McGregor’s close friend and teammate Artem Lobov in a hotel in Brooklyn, only for McGregor to retaliate by invading the Barclays Center later that week to cause chaos in the arena’s loading area. McGregor wound up throwing a dolly that smashed the window of a bus transporting Nurmagomedov.

As everyone would later see, Nurmagomedov was not content to humble McGregor in the cage as he hopped the fence following his fourth-round submission win and kicked off a melee in the crowd going after McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis.

Suffice to say, it’s a safe bet that we haven’t heard the last word from either side.
