Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor given temporary suspensions in advance of NAC meeting

The Nevada Athletic Commission has issued temporary suspensions to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor as its investigation into the wild UFC 229 post-fight brawl continues.

Both Nurmagomedov, the UFC lightweight champion, and McGregor, whom Nurmagomedov defeated via fourth-round submission in the main event of their bout last Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, have been temporarily suspended the maximum 10 days by the commission.

At the next NAC meeting, which will be held in Las Vegas on Oct. 24, the commission will vote on whether to indefinitely suspend both competitors pending the completion of their investigation.

MMA Fighting confirmed the news of the commission’s decision, which was initially reported Thursday by ESPN.

Nurmagomedov, who precipitated the brawl by jumping over the top of the cage to attack McGregor’s teammate, Dillon Danis, still has yet to be paid his $2 million fight purse for the bout, as the NAC continued to withhold his paycheck. McGregor did receive his $3 million payment for his bout.

The controversy over the brawl continued to make headlines on Thursday, as Nurmagomedov threatened via Instagram to never fight again if the UFC punishes his teammates who were involved in the brawl, including Zubaira Tukhugov, who was scheduled to fight McGregor teammate Artem Lobov on the upcoming UFC Moncton event.
