It’s still unclear who will be the next woman to try to take the UFC featherweight championship away from Cris Cyborg, but the Brazilian star believes one of the options is an easier matchup compared to her recent foe.
Cyborg defended the 145-pound title with a unanimous decision victory over Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 219 in Las Vegas, Nev, on Dec. 30. She said she’s open to facing UFC bantamweight queen Amanda Nunes or former Invicta FC featherweight champion Megan Anderson next, but told her team moments after defeating Holm that her fellow Brazilian is not as tough as “The Preacher’s Daughter.”
“I won’t say no to the fight [against Nunes],” Cyborg told her coaches Jason Parillo and Tito Ortiz, as shown in the “UFC 219: The Thrill and the Agony” video. “I’d say I wouldn’t like it because we are both Brazilians. But if she wants to fight me and the UFC wants…”
Ortiz wondered if Nunes would want to face Cyborg after “that a** whooping” over Holm, and Cyborg compared both bantamweights.
“No, I think Holly is more tough than her.”
