UFC on FOX 27 live blog: Jacare Souza vs. Derek Brunson 2

This is the UFC on FOX 17 live blog for Jacare Souza vs. Derek Brunson, a middleweight bout at Saturday night’s UFC event at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Souza, long one of the top middleweights in the world but coming off a loss, will face Brunson, who has won two straight, in the main event.

Round 1: It’s a tepid start to the main event as neither man is forcing the action much early on. 90 seconds in and still nothing of importance has happened. Now Brunson throws a heavy combination but Jacare catches it on the arms. Brunson comes forward and Jacare throws a powerful right hand counter that doesn’t quite land and now we’re back to each man throwing the occasional kick at range without much going on. Brunson comes forward aggressively and Jacare counters with a deep double leg that Brunson uses a whizzer to avoid. Brunson lands a good knee to the body. Jacare lands a head kick that has Brunson in all sorts of trouble! Brunson is stumbling all over and Jacare lands a few punches before the referee calls the fight! Jacare Souza is back with a big win!
