UFC 220 results: Abdul Razak Alhassan knocks out Sabah Homasi in rematch

BOSTON -- This time, there was no doubt about it.

Back at UFC 218, Abdul Razak Alhassan earned a first-round TKO victory over Sabah Homasi, but it was controversial, as referee Herb Dean misinterpreted Homasi shooting for a takedown as if he was dropping to the mat due to punches.

Homasi asked for an immediate rematch and got it Saturday night at UFC 220. But it didn’t go any better.

Al-Hassan dropped Homasi with a huge right uppercut late in the first round of their welterweight bout at TD Garden. Homasi’s head hit the canvas on his way down and he was knocked cold at the 3:47 mark.

“I knew it was the right thing to give him the rematch,” Alhassan, a Ft. Worth native by way of Ghana, said. “I wanted to do the right thing and leave no doubt.”

The bout was a fast-paced affair, with both guys sticking and moving and landing punches and kicks. But Alhassan started finding a home with the right hand, landing jabs and straight shots, and he waited until the perfect opportunity presented itself before unleashing the huge uppercut.

“I threw the right hand, and I noticed he had a hard time getting out of it, so I waited until I had the chance and I threw the uppercut,” Alhassan said.

Alhassan (9-1) has now won two in a row and is 3-1 in the UFC. Homasi (11-8) is 0-3 in the company.
