UFC on FOX 28 lost Yoel Romero last week, but it now has a main event.
Jeremy Stephens will face Josh Emmett in a battle of top featherweights in the UFC on FOX 28 headliner Feb. 24 in Orlando, per a report from the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday night.
Stephens (27-14) is just five days removed from beating Doo Ho Choi by second-round TKO at UFC St. Louis. It was the Alliance MMA product’s second straight win and third victory in his last five fights. Stephens, 31, is one of the hardest hitting men in the 145-pound division.
Emmett (13-1) is coming off the biggest win of his career, a first-round highlight-reel knockout of Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FOX 26 last month. He did, however, miss weight in that bout by 2-1/2 pounds. Emmett, 32, has won two in a row after dropping the first fight of his career last year to Desmond Green by split decision.
UFC on FOX 28 was going to feature Romero against David Branch, but Romero was moved to UFC 221 and an interim middleweight title fight against Luke Rockhold when Robert Whittaker fell injured last week. The Orlando card will also include a women’s strawweight contender bout between Jessica Andrade and Tecia Torres and a key light heavyweight bout between Ovince Saint Preux and Ilir Latifi.
