Scott Askham set for debut against Michal Materla at KSW 42

Scott Askham made it clear that he wanted to fight the best KSW could offer after signing a three-fight deal with the promotion last month.

KSW have granted the UFC veteran’s wish by pitting him against Polish fan favorite Michal Materla at KSW 42 on March 3.

Askham was cut by the UFC after clocking up a 2-4 record under the banner. Following his final UFC loss against fellow Englishman Brad Scott at UFC Fight Night 107 in London, he regained his winning momentum with a convincing win over Luke Barnatt at ACB 70 in September.

Materla announced that he had re-signed with KSW despite an offer being on the table for UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk last October. Although he was out of action for a year, the celebrated Polish middleweight scored his third consecutive win, this time over UFC veteran Paulo Thiago, in Dublin at KSW 40.

Materla’s last loss came at the hands of Mamed Khalidov at KSW 33 in 2015. “Cannibal” finished Materla in the first round of the main event showdown.

Khalidov is set to take on his third promotional champion, Tomasz Narkun, on the same night that Materla locks horns with Askham.

KSW 42 is set to be a blockbuster night for the promotion with some of the its biggest names set for action. As well as Khalidov, Materla and newly signed Askham, KSW have announced that lightweight champion Mateusz Gamrot and women’s flyweight champion Ariane Lipski will both defend their titles on the night.
