UFC St. Louis results: Jessica-Rose Clark decisions game Paige VanZant

An apparent broken right arm put a damper on Paige VanZant’s flyweight debut on Sunday night.

VanZant, in her first fight since coming up from strawweight, told her corner after the second round of her UFC St. Louis bout with Australia’s Jessica-Rose Clark that she broke the arm sometime in the first round.

But that’s taking nothing away from Clark, who put in an impressive showing in defeating VanZant. She earned a unanimous decision at Scottrade Center on scores of 30-27 and a pair of 29-28s to improve to 2-0 in the UFC.

VanZant was active in the bout’s opening minute, but Clark got VanZant to the mat and kept her there for the bulk of the round.

Round 2 was much of the same, as Clark, a former bantamweight, used her size advantage to the fullest in wearing PVZ down and keeping her from getting anything done.

In the final round, VanZant did her best to improvise and throw kicks in the standup. While she had her best round of the fight, it was nowhere near close enough.

Clark made headlines earlier in the week due to a home invasion of her place in Las Vegas, where she currently trains, and said it was tough to maintain her focus.

“It was tough, was really tough dealing with that right before the fight,” said Clark (9-4, 1 NC) but we did what we needed to do. I want whoever’s next.

VanZant (7-4) has dropped two in a row and three of four.
