UFC St. Louis live blog: Kamaru Usman vs. Emil Meek

This is the UFC St. Louis live blog for Kamaru Usman vs. Emil Meek, a welterweight bout at Sunday’s UFC event at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Usman, who has won 10 fights in a row, will fight Meek, who has won four of his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: The fight is on. Meek with hard one-two right off the bat. Usman quickly gets Meek to the ground but Meet locks a guillotine in the process. One minute left. Usman finally escapes and is now in Meek’s half guard. They’re against the cage. meek uses the cage to wall walk and gets back to his feet, Usman remains attached to Meek and lands some knees to the legs. Usman gets Meek back to the ground. Meek imediately gets back up. Usman remains glued to Meek pressuring him against the cage. Big slam by Usman, who’s now in side control. Good control by Usman. One minute left. Meek is back up but they’re clinched against the cage. Usman looking for a rear-naked choke but with only one hook, he’s not able to get it. Usman lands some ground-and-pound before the bell rings. Dominant round by Usman.

Round 2: The second round is on. Big punches by both welterweights, but nothing lands flush. Usman with pressure gets Meek against the cage. Big slam by Usman. Meek imediately looks to get close to the cage in hopes of using it to get back up. And Meek is hack on his feet. Usman putting on a ridiculous amount of pressure. Meek gets a kimura lock and sits back. Two minutes left. Meek still holding on to the kimura. Usman gets out. Usman starting to drop some ground-and-pound, and so is Meek (from the bottom). Thirty seconds left. Meek pulls Usman back to his guard. The bell rings with Usman on top.

Round 3: Meek needs a finish here. They both look to land. Meek lands a groin kick and the referee pauses the bout. Usman taking a break. The fight is back on. Meek with a hard right body kick. Meek swinging for the fences but unable to land something significant. Meek a little wild out there gets picked up and slammed by Usman. Again, Meek gets back up but Usman stays glued on him, pressuring him against the cage. Meek getting out grappled here. Usman is not doing much, but he’s slowly braking down Usman. Meek looks tired. Usman now looking to take Meek’s back. Two minutes left. Insane top control by Usman. Meek attempting a kimura here. He lets it go. One minute left. Usman is now on side control. Meek gets back up just briefly and gets taken back down. Usman finishes the fight on top. Not the most exciting performance, but a very dominant one by Usman.
