Daniel Cormier and Volkan Oezdemir won’t step into the Octagon for another eight days. But Cormier has a 10-8 lead in the pre-fight trash talk, without a doubt.
On Thursday, Cormier used Oezdemir’s own Instagram post to volley a scorching burn in his challenger’s direction. The UFC light heavyweight champion tweeted out a screen shot of Oezdemir’s post “since no one knows or follows you.”
Savage post @volkan_oezdemir but since no one knows or follows you I’ll send it out to the public. 3000 likes for such a good post seems like a waste. quick point tho you’re no Jon Jones and I’m no jimmy Manuwa. And I’m a lot better than Kelly Amunson #tapmachine #bum #ufc220 pic.twitter.com/pvGpoHLE2F

Oezdemir’s photo featured the aftermath of two UFC 214 fights — Oezdemir’s knockout of Jimi Manuwa and Jon Jones’ finish of Cormier. Cormier pointed out that Oezdemir is “no Jon Jones” and he’s not Jimi Manuwa. He also took a shot at Oezdemir’s résumé, writing that Cormier is “a lot better” than Kelly Anundson, who submitted Oezdemir in 2014.
Cormier and Oezdemir will meet in the UFC 220 co-main event Jan. 20 in Boston with Cormier’s light heavyweight title on the line.
Oezdemir won his first three UFC fights last year, including knockouts of Manuwa and Misha Cirkunov in less than one minute. Cormier, meanwhile, has held the UFC light heavyweight belt since 2015. He lost to Jones in July, but the fight was overturned to a no contest after Jones’ failed drug test for a steroid.
