Kairat Akhmetov rematches Geje Eustaquio for ONE interim flyweight title in Manila

ONE Championship will crown an interim flyweight champion in Manila.

The company announced that former flyweight champion Kairat Akhmetov will take on Geje Eustaquio for an interim belt in the main event of ONE: Global Superheroes at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, on Jan. 26.

According to sources, ONE decided to create an interim belt after flyweight titleholder Adriano Moraes, who fought twice over the past five months, including a win over Akhmetov, wasn’t able to compete on that date on short notice.

Akhmetov (24-1) and Eustaquio (9-6) fought last September, and “The Kazakh” won via split decision. Akhmetov currently holds a 2-1 record under the company’s banner, while Eustaquio, who lost to Moraes for the vacant title back in 2014, is 6-5 inside the ONE cage.

The winner is expected to face off with Moraes later this year.
