Mackenzie Dern is off to the UFC.
The strawweight prospect is scheduled to make her long-awaited Octagon debut against Ashley Yoder at UFC 222 on March 3 in Las Vegas, MMA Fighting has learned.
Dern (5-0) is considered one of the greatest female Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners of all time, as she’s won multiple gold medals in some of the most prestigious grappling tournaments around the world.
In 2016, Dern made her MMA debut to much fanfare. Competing for the Legacy Fighting Championship promotion (later the Legacy Fighting Alliance), the now 24-year-old won her first four professional bouts including a standout submission of Montana De La Rosa.
Dern’s most recent outing saw her submit Kaline Medeiros via third-round armbar at Invicta FC 26 last month.
Yoder (5-2) has lost her first two UFC fights to Justine Kish and Angela Hill.
UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby confirmed on Saturday night during a MetroPCS livestream that Dern would be making her Octagon debut in 2018.
The promotion has yet to announce a main event for UFC 222, which is set for the T-Mobile Arena.
Dern recently spoke to MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz about her desire to make the jump to the UFC:
