Jessica Andrade and Claudia Gadelha might’ve inserted their names in the hat for Fight of the Year.
The two Brazilian strawweights engaged in an action-packed fight in the co-main event of Friday’s UFC Japan (UFC Fight Night 117) in Saitama, Japan. Due to their valiant efforts Andrade and Gadelha will each be taking home an extra $50,000 for winning the Fight of the Night awards.
Andrade, who defeated Gadelha via unanimous decision, managed to get her first win since losing to the champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, while Gadelha snapped a two-fight win streak with the defeat.
Additionally, two other fighters earned $50,000 bonuses.
Headliner Ovince Saint Preux earned a Performance of the Night bonus submitting the veteran Yushin Okami with his signature von flue choke in the first round of their light heavyweight contest. With this result, Saint Preux is now 21–10 as a professional fighter.
Kickboxing legend Gokhan Saki earned the second Performance of the Night bonus by putting away Henrique da Silva at the 4:45 mark of the first round. This bout marked Saki’s UFC debut and his second professional MMA fight.
