Carlos Condit wants to fight again — maybe even before the end of the year

It has been 13 months since Carlos Condit last stepped into the Octagon. After losing to Demian Maia by first-round submission at UFC on FOX 21 in August 2016, Condit talked about possible retirement.

The former interim UFC welterweight champion hasn’t done many interviews over the last year or so, and in the ones that he has done, he has discussed the potential of never fighting again.

Now, it seems that Condit has made up his mind. He wants to be back in the UFC — and sooner rather than later. “The Natural Born Killer” tweeted at UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby on Tuesday, asking to fight in December or January.

Condit (30-10) remains one of the most exciting fighters in the world and among the most popular athletes in the UFC’s welterweight division. There are numerous potential matchups for the New Mexico native.

Condit, 33, is on a two-fight losing streak, and has lost five of his last seven, but has also been competing against the best the stacked 170-pound division has had to offer for years. Condit, a JacksonWink MMA product, owns wins over the likes of Rory MacDonald, Nick Diaz and most recently Thiago Alves. He came within a hair of beating Robbie Lawler for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 195 in January 2016.

The UFC has two pay-per-view events in December: UFC 218 on Dec. 2 in Detroit and UFC 219 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas. There’s also UFC on FOX 26 on Dec. 16 in Winnipeg and UFC Fresno on Dec. 9.
