On a night with no shortage of finishes, it was a pair of title contenders that picked up Performance of the Night bonuses.
Rafael dos Anjos and Henry Cejudo earned an extra $50,000 for their respective finishes of Neil Magny and Wilson Reis, while veterans Jeremy Stephens and Gilbert Melendez were also rewarded for a Fight of the Night performance at UFC 215 on Saturday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
Now 2-0 at welterweight, dos Anjos made short work of Neil Magny in the evening’s co-main event, taking him down to the mat and slicing through his defenses to secure an arm-triangle choke submission in Round 1.
Cejudo didn’t waste much time either, finishing fellow flyweight contender Wilson Reis via TKO just 25 seconds into the second frame.
The bonus should provide some consolation for Melendez, who looked to have suffered an injury after repeated strikes to his leg from Stephens. “El Nino” was able to gut it out and make it to the scorecards where he lost a lopsided unanimous decision.
This is the fourth Fight of the Night award for Stephens.
