EDMONTON, Alberta — Is Rafael dos Anjos on track to win a second UFC weight-class title?
The former UFC lightweight champion made short work of Neil Magny on Saturday night. Dos Anjos submitted Magny with an arm triangle at 3:43 of the opening round in UFC 215’s co-main event at Rogers Place.
That gave dos Anjos two straight victories since making the jump up to 170 pounds.
“I’ve been training hard,” said dos Anjos (26-9), “I’m a former lightweight champion, I’m coming for that welterweight belt.”
Dos Anjos wasted little time getting Magny to the ground with a hard leg kick. From there he masterfully improved his position until he sunk in the choke. Magny didn’t take long before tapping out.
The former lightweight champ earned his 14th career finish win and his ninth submission. He’s 7-2 in his past nine. Magny (19-6) has lost two out of his past three.
