ONE Championship 58 results: Bibiano Fernandes makes quick work of Andrew Leone

There’s no stopping Bibiano Fernandes.

The ONE Championship bantamweight king needed just 1:47 to secure a rear-naked choke submission of Andrew Leone in the main event of the “Kings and Conquerors” show at the Cotai Arena in Macau, China on Saturday.

Fernandes rushed Leone from the opening bell, pressuring him against the cage with his powerful grappling before dropping him down to the canvas where he put his Brazilian jiu-jitsu wizardry to work. “The Flash” softened Leone up with relentless ground-and-pound, looking to the ref to call off the action, but with Leone still defending himself, Fernandes took matters into his own hands.

He slipped his arm under Leone’s neck and locked in a rear-naked choke to put an exclamation point on a dominant performance.

This was a return to form for Fernandes, who scraped out a split decision against Reece McLaren in a title fight last December. Fernandes has now defended his ONE belt seven consecutive times and he is unbeaten in his past 13 contests, dating back to December 2010.

In the co-main event, Adriano Moraes won a unanimous decision over Kairat Akhmetov to become the undisputed ONE flyweight champion. The two fought back in 2015 with Akhmetov earning a split decision to take the title, but injuries have sidelined the Kazakh fighter since.

Moraes picked up an interim strap in the meantime and he looked like the much sharper fighter on Saturday, outworking Akhemtov in the standup and gaining the majority of the superior grappling positions. Outside of a flash knockdown in Round 3, Moraes controlled the match, and in the end all three judges scored the fight in his favor.

With his first loss, Akhmetov falls to 23-1 in his pro career.

In other main card action, Shannon Wiratchai authored the fastest finish of the night with a sharp knee that left short-notice replacement Rajinder Singh Meena seeing stars less than 30 seconds into their featherweight contest.

And Fernandes wasn’t the only one showing off his frightening choke game. Undefeated Japanese fighter Hayato Suzuki submitted Joshua Pacio with a first-round rear-naked choke, while Jomary Torres used the same move to submit Rika Ishige in Round 2.

The most impressive knockout may have belonged to Marcin Prachnio, who left Gilbert Galvao flat on the canvas with an overhand right in the first round of their preliminary middleweight contest.
