LAS VEGAS — MayMac might be a victim of its own success.
The Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match was delayed Saturday night due to issues with the pay-per-view providers, Showtime confirmed in a statement.
Outlets like the digital service UFC Fight Pass and cable companies were hit with a deluge of demand and some people have been unable to order the event. ESPN was the first to report the news.
“Due to high demand, we have reports of scattered outages from various cable and satellite provides and the online offering,” the Showtime statement read. “We will delay the start of the main event slightly to allow for systems to get on track. We do not expect a lengthy delay.”
Mayweather vs. McGregor, the historic event pitting the all-time boxing great against the UFC’s biggest star, was supposed to go down at T-Mobile Arena here after 8:15 p.m. local time. It’s unclear exactly when it will now start.
