For a couple weeks there, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor were out of the limelight, a necessary breather after the madness of their World Tour.
But with their Aug. 26 date now just over three weeks away, the combatants are starting to yap at one another again, this time over social media.
Mayweather, the undefeated boxing superstar, took the first swipe over social media. The 49-0 Mayweather went on Instagram and suggested the duo compete at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in eight-ounce gloves instead of 10.
Eight-ounce gloves are usually used for fights at 147 pounds and under, while 10-ouncers are used above that mark. Mayweather-McGregor will be conducted at 154.
As expected, it didn’t take long for McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion, to respond in kind. McGregor went on Instagram and pointed out MMA fighters compete with four-ounces gloves and said he doesn’t care what size gloves the duo uses.
Any changes in glove size would have to be approved by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). NAC executive director Bob Bennett did not immediately respond to a request for clarification Wednesday.
