There’s been plenty of talk about how much Conor McGregor stands to make for his upcoming megabout with Floyd Mayweather. The man himself believes in the nine-figure projection many have tossed around.
The Mayweather-McGregor bout on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas is expected to challenge the previous pay-per-view buy record of 4.6 million set by Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in May 2015. Should that record be broken, McGregor foresees a payday that will dwarf considerably any previous compensation.
“I will clear the $100 million mark. 100-percent,” McGregor told MMA Fighting in an exclusive interview Friday. “If it clears Pacquiao numbers, which it will, which in my mind it already has, it will be $100 million. Factor the gates, factor the merchandise sales, factor all the pies that I have my hand in. I will clear the $100 million mark.”
The event, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena, has yet to sell out despite the massive hype being generated by crossover matchup pitting the two most famous athletes in combat sports. In recent weeks, both men have found themselves bringing further attention to the fight in unorthodox ways, with Mayweather listing the reasons why a bigger, younger McGregor will give him problems, and McGregor becoming embroiled in a highly publicized feud with former sparring partner Paulie Malignaggi.
With the bad blood between he and Malignaggi generating numerous headlines, and what he perceived to be a winning performance during his recent whirlwind promotional tour opposite Mayweather, McGregor considers himself to be worth every penny of the career-best payday that lies ahead.
“Who’s winning the promotion?” McGregor asked at a media scrum following Friday’s open workout. “If it ain’t for me, what’s going on? If it ain’t me scheduling full on fights in the gym for you all to take about and debate, or my skillset or my approach, it’s just Floyd and a roller disco or it’s just Floyd at the bleedin’ Gucci store. You know what I mean? I’m the one that’s bringing this all the way home. I’m the one that - on all them world tours, who went viral? I went viral multiple times on that world tour: The ‘F*CK YOU’ suit, the mink coat, the money, even he tried to throw the money and it was like I went viral because it was like it was raining money above me.
“It’s been all me, and that’s it, and I will collect every single dot on this. I mean on everything, the food, the beverages, the gate, the pay-per-view, the whole lot. When this fight is done, I will sit back, I will collect my show money, and then I’ll go start counting everything else and getting into that $100 million range and taking what I’m owed. And then we will see what’s next after that.”
