On Aug. 26, in Las Vegas, Nev., Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face Conor McGregor in a boxing match being billed as “The Money Fight.” And with the biggest fight of the year, and possibly of all time, less than two months away, the promotional push is starting to begin in earnest. Interest in the bout is enormous with fans not entirely sure what to expect.

But according to Mayweather’s team, fans shouldn’t be the only ones who don’t know what to expect. Speaking recently with Helen Yee, Mayweather’s father and trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr., said that he and his son have a few “presents” for McGregor come fight night.

“Floyd’s gonna definitely put something on Conor McGregor. I’ve got a few presents for Conor McGregor,” said Floyd Mayweather Sr. in an interview with NBC Sports Radio. “I’ve got a few things that I want to hand him. There are a few things that I want to do, and things that Floyd can do. We’re going to be able to touch him up real good.”

Mayweather is a legendary boxer who amassed a 49-0 record across five different weight classes. McGregor is a novice by comparison, having no professional boxing background and a short but meteoric rise to the top of MMA. But despite the seeming disparity, many fans believe McGregor can win on the back of his advantages in size and youth. Moreover, Mayweather is not known as much of a finisher which gives McGregor 12 rounds to land a big left hand knockout. But Mayweather Sr. brushes aside these concerns as ridiculous.

“Let me tell you something, even if it goes the distance, [Floyd] is going to whoop his ass. That’s what’s going to happen. Any way he wants to do it, [McGregor] is gonna get whooped. Ain’t nobody gonna say I’m wrong because they know he’s going to get whooped anyway.”

But it remains to be seen whether beating McGregor will be enough for Mayweather. Many pundits have suggested that McGregor lasting a prolonged period of time with an all-time boxing great despite almost no boxing pedigree would reflect poorly on the sport. But it doesn’t sound like Mayweather and his team intend for that to happen. For what figures to be his final bout, Mayweather Sr. says his son has something new in store that will be worth watching.

“You can believe one thing, y’all gonna see something new in this fight. You’re going to see something that he hasn’t showed you yet. When he shows it, then y’all will know it.”

FINAL THOUGHTS

I’ve adamantly maintained this stance and I stand by it: I’m more interested in a 4 rounder between McGregor and Mayweather Sr. than the actual boxing match we’re getting in August. I think Conor wins but I’m much less certain about that than I am about the money fight.

Oh, and Jon Jones is officially off suspension as of today. All hail the return of the king.

Take it easy y’all and Conor bless.
