ANAHEIM, Calif. -- It’s not likely anyone is going to question whether Volkan Oezdemir belongs again any time soon.
The light heavyweight from Coconut Creek, Fla., by way of Switzerland announced his presence to the elite of the light heavyweight division on Saturday night at UFC 214.
Oezdemir needed just 42 seconds to finish fellow hard-hitter Jimi Manuwa at Anaheim’s Honda Center via TKO.
That put the 27-year-old at 3-0 in the UFC, all in the last five months.
“I was expecting dynamite,” Oezdemir (15-1) said.
The bout went straight to the clinch, where Oezdemir landed a pair of heavy right uppercuts. Manuwa backed off, only to eat a left hand to the face which dropped him. Oezdemir landed two more on the ground before the bout was waved off.
After the fight, Oezdemir said he wanted the winner of the Daniel Cormier-Jon Jones main event.
“I want the winner of tonight’s bout for sure,” said the winner, who has 12 career finishes.
Manuwa (17-3) is now 2-2 in his past four fights.
