UFC on FOX 25 live blog: Chris Weidman vs. Kelvin Gastelum

This is the UFC on FOX 25 live blog for Chris Weidman vs. Kelvin Gastelum, a middleweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y.

Weidman, who has won two of his past five fights, will square off against Gastelum, who is 3-1 with one no-contest in his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: The headlining act of UFC on FOX 25 is here. Referee “Big” John McCarthy has the responsibility of overseeing this middlewight match-up. The fight is on and so are the ‘lets go Weidman’ chants across the arena. No strikes thrown yet, both fighters approaching with caution. Weidman connects with a straight right. Another for Weidman. Weidman shoots for a takedown and gets Gastelum to the ground. Gastelum gets up but Weidman has his arms locked around him. Weidman gets Gatselum to the canvas and gets in side control. Weidman now has a hold of Gastelum’s arm and he’s working a kimura. Two minutes left and Gastelum breaks free. Th fight is back on the feet. Gastelum with a nice left hook. And Weidman gets dropped. Gastelum following up with big shots while Weidman tries to go for a takedown. The bell rings.

Round 2: Weidman looks to have recovered. Both fighters very tentative, taking their time. Gastelum takes the center of the Octagon. Weidman clinches Gastelum against the cage, and he gets a takedown. Weidman now threatening with the back take. Weidman has one hook in, the cage is stopping him from getting in the second one. Weidman landing ground-and-pound in the mean time. Gastelum gets back to his feet but Weidman gets him back down. Weidman now working from inside the guard of Gastelum. The Weidman chants in the arena are deafening. A little bit over a minute left. Weidman picking his shots from top position, but Gastelum is doing a good job at avoiding major damage. The former champ is looking very dominant in this round. The bell rings with Weidman on top.

Round 3: And Weidman drops Gastelum, but he quickly recovers. Weidman rocks him again. Gastelum looks in a lot of trouble. Solid combination by Weidman. Weidman now working for a takedown. He gets it, but Gastelum springs back up. Weidman with another takedown attempt and this time takes down the 25 year old. Weidman working to get back mount but he ony las one hook in. The former champ attacks with submissions, but also mixes things up with strikes. Weidman locks up an arm triangle. It looks tight. Gastelum doing the correct defense but it looks too deep. Boom! Gastelum taps, and Weidman snaps a three fight losing streak in impressive fashion.
