Justin Gaethje will meet a former UFC champion in his next fight, but only after they coach a season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Coming off a thrilling Octagon debut in Las Vegas, finishing Michael Johnson and pocketing a pair of bonuses, Gaethje will coach TUF 26 opposite Eddie Alvarez, UFC president Dana White confirmed to Luke Thomas on Thursday.
The 26th season of the reality show will feature women’s flyweights, opening a new division and crowning a new UFC champion.
The UFC has yet to officially announce the pair of coaches, date and location for their meeting, and the TUF Finale card.
Gaethje (18-0) impressed in his UFC debut against Johnson, adding the 15th knockout to his career after winning the WSOF lightweight belt and defending it five times.
Alvarez (28-5, 1 no-contest) looks to get on track after going winless in his last couple of fights, losing the UFC belt to Conor McGregor last November and fighting to a controversial no-contest versus Dustin Poirier in May.
