And that’s exactly what she did Saturday night at UFC 212. The Brazilian, who now trains in Albuquerque after leaving her native Brazil, scored an impressive victory over Karolina Kowalkiewicz (10-2) on Saturday night, winning via rear-naked choke at the 3:03 mark of the opening round in Rio de Janeiro.
Gadelha took control of the fight from the get-go, got Kowalkiewicz to the mat, and patiently worked her way into position for the winning choke. From there, it didn’t take long for her Polish opponent to tap.
Gadelha (15-2) has won two straight and three of her past four. Both of her career losses have been to the unbeaten Jedrzejcyzk, but both were close fights.
The Brazilian sounds like a fighter intent on controlling what she can as she angles for another shot at the champ.
“You can’t expect different results if you keep doing the same thing over and over,” Gadelha said. “I challenge myself, I’ve done new things, I’m a new fighter, and I’m going to be f*cking hard to beat, man.”
