UFC 212 live blog: Erick Silva vs. Yancy Medeiros

This is the UFC 212 live blog for Erick Silva vs. Yancy Medeiros, a welterweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Silva, who has won three of his past five fights, will square off against Medeiros, who has won three of his past five fights as well, on the main card.

Round 1: Referee for this one is Eduardo Herdy. They touch gloves. Medeiros not exactly getting a warm reception, but he savored the response during intros. Silva takes center, and Medeiros rolls around. Both guys in orthodox stance. High kick glances off Medeiros’ forearms, and the crowd loves it. Now Medeiros comes forward, and might have landed something on Silva. He was down for a moment, and now he’s back up. But for a brief second, looked like he was hurt. Big leg kick from Silva, and that lands. Attempted superman pucnh from Medeiros doesn’t. But so far the Hawaiian doing a great job of finding his range. Body kick from Silva. Right hand from Medeiros. Great little exchanges here. Silva now on the fence, and landing shots. He crouched and dropped an uppercut into Medeiros’ chin. A lot of offense for whoever initiates. Right hand from Medeiros misses, and he wheels around — now he gets slammed with another big leg kick. Crowd responds. Combo from Medeiros, and he had success there. Another leg kick, and Medeiros showing some favoring now. Definitely getting his lead leg attacked. Knee from Silva, and though it gets the crowd excited — and it did land — Medeiros says he’s fine, and shakes his head. Great round. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Silva, 10-9.

Round 2: Medeiros slamming the fence, and then swings for Silva’s head — glances it. They are still trading. Right where we left off. The jab from Medeiros lands, and a right. Just working that jab and then bringing music behind it. Now Silva lands a nice punch, and Medeiros waves him forward like a masochist. Silva lands a nice combo there, and the blood now on Medeiros. And now after a right hand, and then a left hook drops Silva! He comes in and he’s throwing shots, but the referee says it’s over! Whoa. Big knockout for the Hawaiian.
