A strawweight clash pitting top-10 ranked contender Randa Markos against Mexican prospect Alexa Grasso has been scheduled for Aug. 5 in Mexico City at UFC Fight Night 114. The UFC’s Spanish website announced the booking Wednesday.
Markos (7-4) enters the contest fresh off the biggest victory of her career, a hard-fought split decision win over former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza at UFC Fight Night 105.
In total, the 31-year-old TUF veteran has alternated wins and losses throughout her Octagon run, sandwiching victories over Aisling Daly and Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger between setbacks against Jessica Penne, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Cortney Casey. Markos is currently the No. 9 ranked strawweight on the UFC’s official media-generated rankings.
She’ll now meet Grasso (9-1), a top strawweight prospect looking to rebound from her first professional defeat, a decision loss to Felice Herrig at UFC Fight Night 104. Prior to that, the 23-year-old Grasso racked up a perfect 4-0 record under the Invicta FC umbrella before notching a decision win over TUF veteran Heather Jo Clark in Grasso’s much-anticipated UFC debut.
UFC Fight Night 114 takes place at the Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, Mexico. The event is headlined by a flyweight bout between rising contenders Sergio Pettis and Brandon Moreno.
