UFC Fight Night 112 live blog: B.J. Penn vs. Dennis Siver

This is the UFC Fight Night 112 live blog for B.J. Penn vs. Dennis Siver, a featherweight bout at Sunday night's UFC event at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

Penn, who is 0-4-1 over his last five fights, will square off against Siver, who is 1-3 with one no-contest in his last five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Alright, the legendary B.J. Penn kicks off the main card in a career defining against Denis Siver, let’s see what happens here. The referee for this fight is Kevin McDonald. They touch gloves and the fight is on. Siver lands a 1-2 combination on Penn. Siver locks up with Penn and attemps to go for a single leg takedown. Penn defends well and resumes the fight on the feet. Penn is now pressuring forward and clinches Siver against the cage. They break off. Penn looking very patient out there. Three minutes left in the round. Siver hits Penn with a left hook and his mouth piece drops, forcing the referee to stop the fight briefly. Siver connects with a nice combination, the German fighter is now doing the pressuring here. A minute left. Nice jab lands for Penn. Siver landing some leg and body kicks but with very little power. Both fighters very conservative. The bell rings and the first round is in the books.

Round 2: Penn looking a bit more active here,a nd moves forward while landing a combination on Siver. Siver with a solid leg kick. A lot of feints from the German. They throw hands in the pocket but nothing lands for either fighter. Another clean jab by Penn, followed up by a good combination. Siver connects with two solid jabs. Cery little action here. And Penn drops Siver with a hard uppercut and rushes him to the canvas. Penn is now on side control landing some ground and pound. A minute left in the round. Penn really needed something like this to get back in the fight. Penn still doing work, controlling Siver on side control. The bell rings.

Round 3: It seems it’s a one round fight now. Siver gets things started with a leg kick. Siver pressuring Penn here, attempting to land kicks to the legs and body. Siver connects with a straight right, and looks to be the fresher fighter here. Solid jab by Siver. Penn seems either tired or he’s trying to conserve energy for the final minutes. Siver backing up Penn while throwing strikes that are not really landing well, but are at least scoring points. Spinning body kick by the German, followed by a head-kick. Siver lands a jab and another head kick on Penn. The former champ has slowed down a lot, and is having very little offense. Siver landing big punches on Penn against the cage, and looks to have entered a solid groove. Axe kick lands for Siver. The bell rings.
