The Northcutt family will have to wait a little longer to get back in the win column.
Colbey Northcutt, the older sister of UFC lightweight Sage Northcutt, lost her professional MMA debut on Friday, faltering at the hands of fellow featherweight debutant Courtney King at LFA 14 via second-round TKO.
Northcutt (0-1), a 24-year-old karate stylist, entered the contest sporting a 4-1 amateur MMA record, however her last MMA fight dated back three years to Aug. 2014. She has competed professionally since then in kickboxing, but on Friday she finally made her return to the cage, with her younger brother, Sage, commentating cageside in the AXS TV broadcast booth.
Northcutt started out strong, landing a variety of kicks from range and causing a large red welt to sprout on King’s left leg. But late in the opening round, King (1-0) caught a push kick and worked Northcutt to the mat, avoiding a pair of triangle attempts while staying busy in top control. From there, the tone of the match was set. King seized a front headlock early in the second frame and took Northcutt down once more. She then flattened Northcutt out and rained down punches, albeit light ones, until referee Jeff Rexroad stopped the contest at 3:27 of the second round.
With the win, King, a 24-year-old featherweight prospect fighting out of Colorado, kicked off her professional career off with a big performance following a 5-3 run on the amateur circuit. Watch video of the finish below.
