Round 1: Main event of the prelims here, and a good one — Dustin Poirier and Philly's own Eddie Alvarez. A couple of Conor McGregor victims. The referee in this one is Herb Dean. Poirier doesn't want to touch gloves. It's Poirier to the outside, and he comes up top with a head kick. Now a body kick from Poirier, and finally Alvarez unleashes a combo. Alvarez changing levels a bit, or at least deking. Poirier with a nice punch-leg kick combo. Alvarez guns an errant overhand right, but there was some devil to it. Southpaw Poirier patient. They stand in the wheelhouse, and Alvarez lands a couple of nice body punches, and peels out of there. Poiriervery poised. He's sizing things up, and being effective with his offense. Now Alvarez with a combination, followed by a head kick which doesn't connect flush. That right hook of Alvarez's wants to pop. Poirier seems very aware of it. Another high kick from Poirier, and Alvarez blocks it. Another beautiful combo from Poirier, with a thudding leg kick on the part. It's Poirier with the pressure, and he's drawing Alvarez into some wild punches. Spinning punch from Alvarez gets reaction from crowd, but doesn't land clean. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Poirier, 10-9

Round 2: Big right hand counter from Alvarez lands early, and that sent Poirierback. Now Poirier on fence grabs Alvarez as he tries for take down, and can't secure guillotine. Alvarez leaning on him, though, keeping the pressure on. Body kick from Poirier, and he narrowly misses a big left hand. Uppercut from Alvarez, who looks looser this round. Thing he's getting his legs a bit. Still, some swelling on his eye. Now Poirier clips Alvarez with a huge shot, and now he's pouring it on! Just clobbering Alvarez on the fence, and Alvarez doesn't know where he is. Big head kick, and now he's recovering — or is he. He takes another big shot, and Alvarez returns fire! Now it's Alvarez trading with Poirie, and landing. What a fight this turned into. Poirier was hurt, right after Alvarez was hurt! Now they are on fence, and Alvarez takes Poirier down. Poirieris already back to one knee. Now looks like Alvarez hit Poirier with an illegal knee when he was down. Referee is checking with Poirier, and now the doctor in there. Dean let the knee land, not once but twice, perhaps confused by new rules (which aren't in use tonight in Texas). Dean is asking Poirier if he can continue. That's it. Fight is over. Dean is calling it off. Alvarez throws his hands up in frustration. Dean saying it will be a no contest.
