Bellator 178 is getting a nice addition, in the form of two game lightweights squaring off.
On Tuesday, Bellator announced via its Twitter page that the Inland Empire’s Saad Awad (19-9) would return to the Mohegan Sun to face local Connecticut fighter Ryan Quinn (13-6-1).
For Awad, who hails from San Bernardino, it’ll be a return to Uncasville, where he last faced Brennan Ward at Bellator 163 in November. The fight was memorable in that Awad and Ward stood toe-to-toe after a brief verbal exchange, ending with a first-round KO for Ward.
Before then Awad dropped a decision against Derek Anderson at Bellator 160.
The Danbury-based Quinn, however, is on a two-fight win streak. He last competed at Bellator 140, in which he scored a submission victory over veteran Waylon Lowe (guillotine). All told American Top Team fighter, who has competed in other promotions, has gone 7-0 when fighting in Bellator.
Bellator 178 takes place April 21 at the Mohegan Sun, and will feature a featherweight title fight between Patricio Freire and Daniel Straus, as well as a women’s flyweight battle between Ilima-Lei MacFarlane and Jessica Middleton.
