Prospect Dominic Mazzotta to meet A.J. McKee at Bellator 178

A.J. McKee Bellator

Bellator’s next visit to the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut is picking up some steam

On Monday, MMA Fighting learned that 21-year-old blue chip prospect A.J. McKee will take on promotional newcomer Dominic Mazzotta at Bellator 178, which takes place on April 21 in Uncasville, Conn.

The undefeated McKee (7-0) last competed against Brandon Phillips at Bellator 171 in January, scoring a unanimous decision victory. It was his second decision since beginning his career with five straight finishes. The only other fighter who was able to go the distance with him was Ray Wood back in December.

The 21-year-old Mckee is the son (and pupil) of MMA veteran Antonio McKee.

Mazzotta (12-1) is a big-time prospect himself, whose only loss in 13 professional bouts came against the UFC’s current bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt in 2014. The “Honey Badger” has currently won eight straight fights, his most recent coming against Solon Staley at Pinnacle FC 15 in December.

The bout will occur on the main card of Bellator 178, which will air live on Spike TV.

Bellator 178 will feature a featherweight title fight between familiar foes, as champion Daniel Straus takes on Patricio Freire for the fourth time. A women’s flyweight fight between Ilima MacFarlane and Jessica Middleton is set for the co-main event.
