ADCC’s upcoming event in Finland has lost one of its superfights.
American Top Team leader Ricardo Liborio, who was scheduled to face Bellator light heavyweight Chael Sonnen at the ADCC 2017 event in September, told MMA Fighting that he has suffered a knee injury and won’t be able to recover in time to compete.
Liborio, who defeated Ze Mario Sperry at ADCC 2015’s ‘Stars Superfight’ in Sao Paulo, Brazil, said that he tore his ACL and will need to go under the knife. The surgery will take place later this year, and he intends to come back to compete at ADCC 2019.
Sonnen, who grappled twice in 2014 and 2015, facing Andre Galvao and Renato Sobral in Metamoris, is scheduled to face Wanderlei Silva in the main event of Bellator 180 at Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 24. In his last MMA fight, Sonnen lost to Tito Ortiz via first-round submission.
The 2017 edition of Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championship will take place at the Espoo Metro Areena in Espoo, Finland, between Sept. 22 and Sept. 24.
