Khabib Nurmagomedov would have made $500,000 if he fought Tony Ferguson at UFC 209

Khabib Nurmagomedov missed out on a very solid payday.

If he would have competed Saturday night at UFC 209, Nurmagomedov would have made $500,000 in show money, the biggest fight purse of his career, per a document obtained by MMA Fighting via the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). Nurmagomedov was slated to face Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight title in the co-main event of the card.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the purse information. There was no win bonus attached to the $500,000 purse.

The undefeated Nurmagomedov, of course, fell out of the fight due to weight-management issues Friday before weigh-ins. He was brought to a local Las Vegas hospital Friday morning and UFC doctors ended up scrapping the fight.

Nurmagomedov’s last disclosed purse, at UFC on FOX 19 in April 2016, was just $24,000 to show and another $24,000 to win against late fill-in Darrell Horcher. Nurmagomedov won that fight by second-round TKO. The Dagestan native’s purse was not disclosed at UFC 205 in November when he defeated Michael Johnson, per New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) rules.

Ferguson was slated to make $250,000 to show Saturday night and another $250,000 if he won. It was immediately unclear whether or not Ferguson will get his show money since he did not fight.

In the UFC 209 main event, Tyron Woodley will defend his welterweight title against Stephen Thompson. Woodley will make $400,000 to show and another $100,000 if he wins. Thompson will make $380,000 to show and another $180,000 if he is victorious.

The two heavyweights on the main card, Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem, have the largest show purses: $750,000 each.

Rashad Evans will be making $150,000 to show in his fight against Daniel Kelly and another $135,000 if he wins. Kelly will make $27,000 to show and another $27,000 if he wins.

Lando Vannata vs. David Teymur is the new UFC 209 co-main event. Vannata’s show money is $25,000 and his win bonus is $25,000. Teymur’s show money is $14,000 and his win bonus is $14,000.

These figures do not factor in pay-per-view shares or other discretionary bonuses.
