The UFC has added a pair of big fights for the upcoming card on FOX.
Scheduled for April 15 in Kansas City, UFC on FOX 24 will be headlined by flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson against Wilson Reis. Top middleweight contender Ronaldo Souza will also compete at the event, taking on Robert Whittaker.
The UFC announced the news Saturday night following a report by MMA Junkie. UFC on FOX 24 is set to take place at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
Johnson (25-2-1) will try to tie Anderson Silva's UFC record of 10 consecutive title defenses that night after beating the likes of Joseph Benavidez, Henry Cejudo and John Dodson during his run as UFC flyweight champion.
Reis (22-6) originally earned a shot at Johnson after defeating Dustin Ortiz in 2016, but the promotion changed plans after the champion was forced out of UFC 201 with an injury. The Brazilian went on to defeat Hector Sandoval and Yuta Sasaki.
Souza (24-2, 1 NC) returns to action a little over two months after making quick work of Tim Boetsch at UFC 208, improving to 7-1 under the promotion’s banner. His only loss inside the Octagon is a controversial decision defeat to Yoel Romero.
Whittaker (17-4) enters the biggest fight of his MMA career riding a six-fight winning streak, the last five as a middleweight. The 26-year-old fighter hasn’t competed since November, when he scored a first-round knockout over Derek Brunson.
