UFC 209 live blog: Lando Vannata vs. David Teymur

Round 1: Herb Dean the referee for this impromptu co-main event. Teymur takes center, and Vannata buzzes around him. Body kicks from each to start. Teymur the one rolling around here, and Vannata pressuring. They come together, with a spinning backfist from Vannata. Good early action. Body kicks from Teymur, and there was some heat there — but a cartwheel kick from Vannata lands! And now he's attacking, and landing accurately, and efficiently. Teymur was hurt there for a minute, and now Teymur lands a couple of right hands. Wow. Back and forth we go. Big shots from Teymur there, and everyone of those landed, and Vannata lost his mouthpiece. Gets t back, and high kick from Teymur. Spinning kick from Vannata lands. Just showcase stuff from both, but Teymur gaining momentum. High kick again from Teymur lands. Crowd swelling with each of these. Vannata with a quick takedown, and Teymur back up. The crowd liked that scramble. Short elbow from Vanatta, and then he eats several punches from Teymur on the fence. Damn. Blood on Teymur's face. Teymur throwing big shots the whole way. Round 2: Dean wiped down Teymur before the round. They touch gloves. Vannata goes low for a leg kick (a sweep kick). High kick from Teymur, and now they clinch momentarily. A couple of spinning kicks are errant. Inside leg kick from Teymur, which he's been landing. Big shot from Vannata then countered by Teymur. A couple of knees to the body from Teymur, and Vannata takes those and showboats a bit. Those were hard shots. Vannata catches a kick, and goes into a spin kick, which lands! He is an aesthetic fighter. Just a great fight. A couple of high kicks there, and Teymur lands a superman punch. Some blood on Vannata's head, and Teymur takes Vannata down. Surprise, surprise. Another high kick, as a counter, from Vannata. Combo from Teymur towards the end, and Vannata with his arms down tries to dodge. Showmanship, chin, aesthetics, swagger. Great fight. Round 3: They touch gloves. They come right at each other, Vannata comes out hot. Throwing heat. Teymur happy to oblige. Teymur with a big left knee to the body in the clinch, lands. Just so fast and furious. Vannata beautiful in his range, lands and gets out — showing real prowess as a striker. Still, Teymur is landing, too. He lands a right hand, and now a kick to the body. There's a high shot from Teymur. This is going to be a nightmare to score. So much action. Pressure from Vannata, effective striking from Teymur. Teymur continues to attack the lead leg, inside leg kick. Combo from Teymurm and now with a takedown. This is a great showing, win or lose, but Teymur. Again after a sequence, Teymur takes down Vannata, and he can't keep him there. Now Teymur drops for a single leg and again trying to dump Vannata. He might be making this his fight. Great right hand from Teymur, and he shoots for takedown, and for a brief moment drops Vannata again. Just very active, Teymur. And Vannata having his moments as well.
