A BBC Three documentary that aired this week follows English bantamweight Dean Garnett during a difficult weight cut before his BAMMA fight with Luiz Tosta in July 2016. Garnett, who is typically around 152 pounds, had to drop about 15 pounds in the span of 19 hours.
The documentary team also interviews Ben Crighton, a PhD researcher at Liverpool John Moores University. Crighton found an increase in the enzymes of Garnett's liver and kidneys, which could lead to long-term damage to both organs.
