Jodie Esquibel had two opponents drop out for Invicta FC 21 and was left without a fight. The strawweight will try again next month.
Esquibel has been rebooked against previous planned opponent DeAnna Bennett for Invicta FC 22 on March 25 in Kansas City, sources told MMA Fighting on Wednesday. The two were supposed to meet last month at Invicta 21, but Bennett withdrew due to injury.
After Bennett pulled out, Esquibel (5-2) was then supposed to face Kali Robbins, but Robbins had issues with her weight cut and was not able to compete. Esquibel, 30, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Alexa Grasso in July. The JacksonWink MMA product competed on The Ultimate Fighter 23, falling to Ashley Yoder in the elimination round.
Bennett (8-2) has lost two straight. Most recently, the Utah resident fell to Roxanne Modafferi by split decision in a flyweight fight last March. Bennett, 32, fought for the Invicta strawweight title in January 2016, falling to Livia Renata Souza by first-round TKO.
Also on the Invicta 22 card, Sunna Rannveig Davidsdottir will meet Mallory Martin and Kal Holliday takes on Miranda Maverick. As previously reported, popular atomweight contender Jinh Yu Frey faces Janaisa Morandin.
In the Invicta FC 22 main event, Tonya Evinger will defend her bantamweight title against Yana Kunitskaya for a second straight fight. Evinger appeared to lose the belt via submission to Kunitskaya back in November, but the bout result was overturned to a no contest by the Missouri Office of Athletics due to a referee error. Atomweight champion Ayaka Hamasaki will move up to strawweight and face former strawweight champ Souza in the co-main event.
The card will take place at the Scottish Rite Temple and air live on UFC Fight Pass.
