Alex Perez caps off debut at UFC Fresno with anaconda choke of Carls John de Tomas

It’s been a heck of a year for Alex Perez.

The 25-year-old Californian won his fourth fight of 2017 and his first in the UFC by submitting Carls John de Tomas in the second round of their preliminary bantamweight bout at UFC Fresno on Saturday. Perez (19-4) was signed out of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series after nearly making it to the UFC on a couple of occasions in the past.

Hailing from nearby Lemoore, Calif., Perez made it clear that his plan was to ground De Tomas, and after failing to secure an anaconda choke in Round 1, he repeated the maneuver in the second frame to pick up the victory.
