Cynthia Calvillo and Carla Esparza will clash in a key strawweight battle at UFC 219 on Saturday.

This is the UFC 219 live blog for Cynthia Calvillo vs. Carla Esparza, a strawweight showdown at Saturday night's UFC event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Calvillo, who is 4-0 this year and 6-0 overall, will face Esparza, a former UFC champion who has alternated wins and losses in her past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Referee Chris Tognoni overseeing this fight. Exchange of right hands as Calvillo stalks a circling Esparza. Nice leg kick by Esparza. Calvillo ducks a punch and scores a takedown, landing in half guard. Calvillo staying close, not risking much from top position. Esparza stopping any attempts to pass, she gets Calvillo into full guard. Armbar attempt by Esparza. Calvillo keeping Esparza stacked up, but Esparza briefly manages to extend the arm. Calvillo pulls her limb free and then drops into side control. Knee to the body by Calvillo. Short elbows to the head by Calvillo. Esparza tries to scramble out, but ends up back in side control on the bottom. Calvillo into mount and she lands big punches while she’s there. Esparza scrambles free and ends the round on top.

Round 2: Esparza with a couple of counter punches. Calvillo responds with a counter right of her own. 1-2 by Esparza. She’s landing punches consistently, getting the better of the stand-up. She blocks a takedown attempt by Calvillo. Jab by Calvillo. Esparza with another 1-2. Esparza with an unsuccessful takedown attempt. She goes back to her boxing and lands another short combination. Calvillo probing with her jab. They exchange straight rights again. Both fighters taking damage in these exchanges. Esparza gets a takedown, but they’re only on the mat for a few seconds. Calvillo eats a knee as she tries to clinch up. Inside leg kick by Esparza. Single leg takedown by Esparza scores, Calvillo recovers immediately and they end on the feet. Light shove by Calvillo after the buzzer as Esparza was hanging on to a single leg attempt.

Round 3: Jab-leg kick combo by Esparza lands, they both score with punches on the following exchange. Another exchange of straight rights. Esparza with the single leg again, Calvillo shrugs it off and goes for a body lock. She’s pressuring Calvillo against the cage, but the separate and reset in the center of the Octagon. Inside leg kick by Esparza. The former champion enters with a straight right then hits another inside leg kick. Superman punch by Esparza, followed by a right hand and a leg kick. Counter jab by Calvillo cracks Esparza, who is still marching forward and scoring. Calvillo catches a kick and drives in for a takedown. Esparza looking for a headlock, they break apart and Esparza hits Calvillo with a left hook. More mostly even exchanges. Esparza with the takedown that is nullified by a scrambling Calvillo. A punch catches Esparza running in. Leg kick by Esparza. Esparza marching forward just throwing hands.
