In case you had any doubts, doubt no more: Josh Emmett is a legitimate contender in the featherweight division.
The Sacramento native scored the biggest victory of his career on Saturday night. A ridiculous left hook knocked respected veteran Ricardo Lamas out cold at UFC on FOX 26. The time of the finish at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre was 4:33 of the opening round.
“I said one clean shot would end the fight and everyone said I couldn’t do it,” Emmett (13-1) said after his fourth career knockout. “I shocked the world.”
The round had been fairly uneventful, as both fighters seemed to be trying to figure each other out, before Emmett landed the perfect left hook on the jaw. Lamas head hit the canvas when he landed, and he was unconscious for several minutes before coming back around.
The bout was at a catchweight 148.5 pounds, as Emmitt missed weight on Friday. After recording his fourth win in his past five fights, Emmett apologized for the miss and vowed it wouldn’t happen again.
“I want to thank them for taking the fight, they didn’t have to,” the Team Alpha Male fighter said. “I apologize for missing the weight it will never happen again.”
Lamas (18-6) dropped to 2-2 in his past four fights.
