UFC bantamweight Aljamain Sterling was one of seven fighters to receive a lengthy medical suspension in the aftermath of UFC Fresno. The California State Athletic Commission released the event’s medical suspension report Thursday to MMA Fighting.
Sterling suffered a frightening first-round knockout loss to Marlon Moraes on the night’s main card. Sterling was rendered unconscious by a vicious knee-to-the-head that left him down on the canvas for several minutes. He was ultimately transported to a local hospital. As a result of damage sustained in the contest, Sterling will be required to seek neurologist clearance or be sidelined indefinitely, per CSAC officials.
Sterling has been active on social media since the fight, stating that he is OK and has suffered no additional ill effects from the knockout.
The six other fighters who received similarly extended medical suspensions were: Markus Perez (indefinite; neurologist clearance), Gabriel Benitez (180 days; left ankle, right eye, left elbow), Marlon Moraes (180 days; right hand), Scott Holtzman (180 days; right thumb, loose teeth), Benito Lopez (180 days; nose), and Davi Ramos (180 days, left tibia).
UFC Fresno took place Dec. 9 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. The night’s main card aired live on FOX Sports 1.
