Round 1: Main event time. Huge spot here for both men in a division that’s wide open. Will Cub Swanson inch closer to his first title shot or will Brian Ortega prove he belongs among the featherweight elite? Referee Mike Beltran is the third man in the cage. They touch ‘em up and we’re off. Extended feeling out period to start this one. Ortega starts pawing away with a few leg kicks. Swanson answers with a winging combination that misses. Just like that, the floodgates open and they trade hard in the pocket. Neither man lands flush. Swanson goes low with a kick. Ortega fires back a jab. Swanson is mixing up his strikes, swarming with body and head shots. Ortega eats a hard right hook, then tags Swanson with his own right hand. Swanson continues to work the body. Swanson connects with a hard flurry. Ortega wraps Swanson up in the clinch and seizes a standing choke! Oh my lord, he might have this! Ortega throws Swanson to the floor and he’s thiiiiis close to locking up an anaconda choke! Five seconds left! Swanson survives to the horn. WOW. What a sequence there. Saved by the bell. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 Ortega.

Round 2: Ortega has to be feeling good about himself after that. They trade flurries. Swanson lands hard with a left hand. Swanson blocks a head kick then goes head-body. Swanson continues to pulverize Ortega’s body with stiff strikes. Ortega eats a big right hand, but he just keeps coming and muscles Swanson into the fence. Ortega latches onto another standing choke, then jumps into a flying guillotine! He’s squeezing with all he has! Ortega readjusts his hands ... and Swanson frantically taps!!! THAT WAS NUTS. Slick, slick stuff from Brian Ortega. The UFC featherweight division has itself a new contender.
